This study aims to examine secondary school students’ book, newspaper and magazine reading and library use habits and whether these traits affect their reading attitudes. Participants were a total of 510 children, 241 girls and 269 boys, who were attending the 6th-8th grades of 6 different secondary schools at the lower, middle and upper socioeconomic level. The children were selected through stratified sampling. Data were collected with“General Information Form”, andÖzbay and Uyar’s (2009) “Reading Attitude Scale for Elementary Second Stage Students”. Data were analysed by using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney U, and Kruskal Wallis H tests. The results showed that children who spare time to read, whose parents read for them, whose family buy newspapers, who visit the library twice or three times weekly have significantly higher reading attitude scores (p<0,05).
