The purpose of the study was to examine the effects of 5E constructivist learning model on students’ academic achievement in the 5thgrade in social studies course. The research was carried out in 2011–2012 education-instruction year in an elementary school in Karaman province. Totally 34 students in two different classes in the 5th grade of this school participated in the study. The pre-post-test control group research model was used in this study. In order to test the significance between the groups, Mann Whitney-U test was used. The results of the research showed a significant difference between academic achievement scores of the experiment group and the control group. It was also found out that 5E constructivist learning model was more effective in the positive development of the students’ academic achievement level in the experimental group.
