Abstract


A Study on 6th Grade Students’ Self-awareness on Listening Skills According to Their Socio-economic Level
Self-awareness and self-reflection concerning the listening skills considered to be an internal process will contribute a lot to the development of this skill. This study is to determine the level of 6th grade students’ self-awareness on one of the four skills, listening. In this respect, 238 6th grade students with different socio-economic level participated in the survey studying in Erzurum and the schools that joined the survey and perceived socio-economic levels of students were encoded as A, B, C, D. In the study, descriptive scanning design was used. As data collection tool, Likert type 46 item scale for “Awareness of Listening Skills” developed by Şahin and Aydın (2009) was employed. The data collected were analyzed by One Way ANOVA and LSD Post Hoc test in SPSS 16.0 program. The results of the study showed that the there was found significant difference between the socio-economically different students at primary schools in terms of awareness of listening skills and socio-economic level was proportional to the scale; as the socio-economic level decreases so do the scores in the scales’ 5 dimensions.
