Abstract


Adaptation of Perceived School Experiences Scale to Turkish: Validity and Reliability Study
This study addressed the Turkish adaptation study of “Perceived School Experiences Scale” developed by Anderson-Butcher, Amorose, Iachini ve Ball (2012) in order to identify student perceptions regarding school life. A working group of 190 males and 208 females attending secondary school and high school was used for the validity and reliability study of the scale. Under the framework of the validity study of the scale, the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was used to test the construct validity, and the criterion validity was also analyzed. CFA results presented that all t values were significant and that the model generated good fit values. Measurement invariance of the test for males and females was also examined and it was found to be valid for both groups. Medium and high level relationships were found between the two sub-dimensions which are “Teachers” and “Positive Feelings towards School” and Perceived Social Competence Scale and School Life Quality Scale for criterion validity. In reliability study, Cronbach Alpha values were found to be between .83 and .93 for the whole scale and for sub dimensions. Test-retest reliability undertaken with five-week intervals provided values between .45 and .81 forth whole scale and sub dimensions.
